Why you freeze
Word apps teach you vocabulary. Then someone asks you to say a sentence out loud, and your mouth stops.
Most voice tutors assume you can already hold a sentence. They greet you in the new language, you understand nothing, and you quit.
A human tutor fixes this, but it means booking a time and speaking in front of someone. learnlang is there at 11pm, with nobody watching.
English help
The tutor speaks mostly English and weaves in a new word as it goes. Here is one question, asked over and over as a learner improves. This one is Finnish.

When you fall back on English mid-sentence, the tutor gives you the missing word. You say it, it lands in your new words, and the conversation keeps going.
Level and English help adjust after every turn. They hold you near an 85% success rate, which learning research finds fastest (Wilson et al., 2019). Level only rises when you speak the new language.

Who built it
The person who built learnlang is learning Finnish, a language with few speaking partners and poor app support.
The apps taught them words, but nothing taught them to talk. So they built the tutor they needed.
